AnyConnect 3.1 is the current supported version. AnyConnect 2.3.2016 is currently available via SC on CAS Supported Windows Computers; there is no current plan to update this version since AnyConnect seamlessly updates itself to the latest version when it is used.
ITSS has implemented an enterprise Cisco VPN solution for UNT faculty and staff who need to access resources restricted to the UNT network space. To VPN, the AnyConnect client is intially activated via an ActiveX or Java client that uses the SSL protocols to make an encrypted connection from your machine to the Campus VPN.
Note: Besides the web portal, the AnyConnect client is the only way a 64-bit machine can access the Campus VPN.
As always, contact us if you have any questions.
Cisco AnyConnect is available to be installed via SC.
Note: Laptops should automatically have AnyConnect installed. Please see the Running AnyConnect section below.
This includes Apple Computers and Personal Windows Computers.
Connecting to the campus VPN is done in two simple steps:
Once you have AnyConnect installed on your computer, you can simply run Cisco AnyConnect from the Start Menu. The VPN address should be pre-populated as vpn.unt.edu (or vpn#.unt.edu -- where # is a number). If it's not enter it. Faculty and Staff need to leave the group as General and Authenticate with your EUID credentials.
The Apple computer you're working on is now configured to connect to the UNT VPN.
If you're using Ubuntu OS, you can connect to the UNT VPN using the following steps.
Open up Terminal and type in "sudo apt-get install network-manager-vpnc" then enter your password to install the Cisco VPN plugin
Once that installs(or tells you that its already installed), click on the networking arrows in the top left, select VPN connections, then click "configure VPN..."
In the window that opens, click "Add"
In the window that opens select "Cisco Compatible VPN"(this is what you installed in the Terminal earlier) and click "Create..."
The next window is where you'll actually configure everything for UNT - just make it match the following image but change the EUID to yours and the EUID password to your UNT password(same login you use for WebMail,Blackboard, EIS, etc).
We're almost done now, just have to make sure the VPN knows to only tunnel UNT traffic through it(otherwise your network speed might suffer). Click on the "IPV4 Settings" tab, then click on "Routes..."
In this window, check the box that says "Use this connection only for resources on its network".
Click Ok, click save and enter your password if prompted.
When you need to connect in, just click the Arrow Icon and click on the new connection. To disconnect, just click it again.
